• Developing The Supply Chain Initiative—As the electric power industry seeks to change out existing stock and build new infrastructure as complex as CCS plants, offshore wind farms, and Smart Grid technology, utilities are seeking a more thorough understanding and a value added strategic relationship with its suppliers to drive technological solutions, ensure supply of key materials, and streamline the procurement and contracting process. To this end, CEA and its CPC members are launching the first ever Supply Chain Best Practices workshop on March 8^th-9^th in Toronto. Outcomes from this workshop could include developing a roadmap and or Supply Chain dynamic for its members in concert with government agencies such as the EDC and Industry Canada, and working together to drive standards, technology, and quality equipment supply.

• CPC members assist electric utilities in the management of the supply chain, procurement of projects, improved logistics, benchmarking KPIs, and generally, by offering advice to members to achieve CEA’s Strategic Goals.

• Strategic Industry Workshops—CPC workshops are now organized annually for each CEA Council (Generation, Transmission, Distribution, Customer) and at a senior executive level on critical issues such as “Greening the Grid”, “Low Carbon Generation Technologies and Risk Mitigation”, “New Transmission Technologies and the Business Case”, “Smart Grid and the Impact on the Customer”, “Building Distribution Supplier Alliances”, “Energy Storage and Distributed Generation”.

• Standards Committee—The CPC liaises frequently with the CEA Standards Committee, on issues of importance like Harmonic Distortion and Power Quality.

• Networking—CPC–Council workshops afford a high level of social interaction to meet and network with key decision makers in the Canadian electricity industry.
