“Sustainability for Life”: Electricity Canada shares stories of sustainability from across the country in new publication

On April 24, 2024, Electricity Canada and the Sustainable Electricity Committee launched a new publication, Sustainability for LifeStories celebrating community engagement in the electricity sector at the Metcalfe hotel in Ottawa.

This booklet is a collection of 11 stories about the work electricity companies are doing to better engage with the communities they live in. These stories were compiled from in-depth interviews with members from AltaLink, ATCO, Hydro-Québec, Alectra, Capital Power, SaskPower, ENMAX, Fortis Inc, Fortis BC, Ontario Power Generation and Newfoundland Power, these case studies reflect the best and brightest in community engagement.

This publication celebrates the ingenuity, and creativity of the electricity sector and their commitment to good corporate citizenship. From a biologist who protects wildlife from powerlines, to a solar project whose groundskeepers are sheep from a neighbouring ranch, to developing wildfire mitigation plan to an annual celebration of the environment led by employees, these stories are snapshots of the Canadian electricity sector’s sustainability work.

“Electricity Canada’s Sustainable Electricity program exists to report on sustainability advancements, and to highlight best practices and industry trends.” Said Electricity Canada President and CEO Francis Bradley. “Part of that effort is in data sharing, but part of that effort is in storytelling. The stories in Sustainability for Life are important, because they talk about the human side of companies, and the decisions they’ve made to make the world a better place.”
