As the power system evolves with a higher penetration of Inverter Based Resources (IBRs), it poses a great challenge for system operators and utilities to operate and maintain the overall system reliably.
To understand the complex behaviors and grid vulnerabilities introduced by IBRs, an extensive effort in the power system simulation area is required. The traditional phasor domain simulation studies are often insufficient in capturing the behavior of these devices. Hence, Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) studies are required to have a better insight into the actual behavior, in predicting the overall system performance accurately. This presentation discusses the renewable integration challenges and possible mitigation options. Additionally, the participants will be given a demonstration on IBR related issues and practical solutions in EMT simulation platform.
