Electricity Canada 2025 awards for sustainability, safety, standards, and reliability and resilience

At the 2025 Powering Partnerships Summit in Vancouver, Electricity Canada showcased its annual awards, celebrating the people and companies leading the way in Canada’s electricity sector.

We’re proud to announce this year’s award winners for safety, sustainability, standards, and reliability and resilience.

Safety awards

  • The Safety Innovation award was given to BC Hydro for their implementation of their Specialized Internal Erosion Assessment Program setting a new industry standard for dam safety.
  • The Safety Changemaker award was presented to Aaron Leblanc of NB Power for YouTube channel, Bobsdecline, which makes safety education engaging and accessible.
  • The Frontline Safety Advocate award recognized ATCO’s frontline crews who responded to the 2024 Jasper wildfire.

Sustainability awards

  • The Sustainable Leadership award was given to BC Hydro past president Chris O’Riley for demonstrating outstanding leadership on sustainability issues within the electricity sector throughout his career.
  • The Powering Progress award was presented to FortisAlberta for their Wildfire Risk Mitigation Plan.

Jim McFadgen Award for Standards Excellence

  • The Jim McFadgen Award for Standards Excellence was presented to Scott Mercer of BC Hydro for his technical expertise, international collaboration, and pioneering work which has shaped Canadian and global practices.

Reliability and Resilence

  • The Reliability and Resiliency Award was given to FortisAlberta for demonstrating excellence in asset management and innovation in reliability, outage communications and overall reliability as well as resiliency management.

In addition to these awards, the Women In Electricity Award and the Electricity Canada Lifesaving Awards were given out at this year’s Powering Partnership summit, along with this year’s Centre of Excellence inductees.
