Electricity Canada launches eighth annual state of the industry report, “Forging Canada’s Electricity Future”

Canada has built bold, nation-shaping electricity projects before. And we can, and must, do it again, according to a new report by Canada’s association of electricity providers.

Forging Canada’s Electricity Future, Electricity Canada’s eighth annual State of the Canadian electricity industry report outlines what it will take to double Canada’s grid while balancing ambition, affordability, reliability, and trust. With electricity demand surging, this moment demands decisive action.

The report offers a practical roadmap to modernizing regulation, mobilizing capital, strengthening resilience, and positioning Canada as a global clean energy superpower. It proposes several solutions including:

  • Fixing approvals and modernizing regulation to cut costly delays
  • Securing materials, and talent, to build at scale
  • Unlocking public and private capital… without overburdening customers
  • Advancing an integrated, east–west Canadian grid
  • Protecting communities and infrastructure from wildfire risk
  • Defending the grid in an increasingly digital world

The report outlines what it will take to build the electricity system at the scale Canada now requires doubling the capacity of its grid.

QUOTE:

“To forge is to create something strong or lasting through effort. That’s what the electricity sector wants to happen right now in Canada. As this year’s state of the electricity industry report indicates, the task ahead is to build big again. Decisively and ambitiously. At the same time, we need to ensure that affordability, reliability and long-term prosperity remain at the heart of Canada’s energy future. There is a clear opportunity to make Canada an energy superpower.”
