The Safety Innovation Award recognizes a member utility that has seized an opportunity and demonstrated excellence in advancing workplace safety through innovative initiatives. These innovations may arise from proactive efforts towards foreseeable challenges or as part of a broader commitment to learning and improvement following a significant event, such as a near-miss, regulatory change, or other critical natural occurrences.
Eligibility:
Open to any Electricity Canada member organization. Recognized safety innovations may include, but are not limited to:
- Technological advancements that enhance workplace safety.
- Process improvements that mitigate risks.
- Training programs that foster safety leadership.
- Cultural initiatives that drive proactive safety engagement.
- Environmental health and safety measures that contribute to long-term well-being.

Accepting applications for the 2025 Safety Innovation Award.
Please apply by August 31, 2025.
Award Eligibility
Application Process:
- Nomination Form: A completed nomination form detailing the safety innovation and its implementation.
- Supporting Evidence: Documentation showcasing the development and impact of the innovation (e.g., case studies, data, testimonials, process changes, or training programs).
- Impact Statement: A brief description of how the safety innovation has led to measurable improvements in workplace safety and/or the utility industry.
- Endorsement: At least one endorsement from a colleague or industry peer supporting the nomination.
Selection Criteria:
- Innovation & Creativity: The extent to which the initiative demonstrates a novel or significantly improved approach to safety.
- Impact: How the innovation has strengthened or improved overall safety within the organization and/or across the industry.
- Scalability & Influence: The potential for the innovation to be adapted or implemented by other organizations.
- Sustainability: The long-term impact of the innovation on work safety practices and behaviours.
