The Women in Electricity Award recognizes an individual or team in their extraordinary resolve in advancing women in utility organizational structures, company processes, and outcomes that result in more women working in organizations across Canada.
The Women in Electricity award is co-presented by Women in Renewable Energy (WiRE).

Award Eligibility
Electricity Canada member companies have taken great strides in advancing women in the electricity sector, however, more still needs to be done. The aim of this prestigious award is to:
- Recognize leaders in Electricity Canada’s member companies for creating a more diverse and inclusive work environment, and
- Help advance the important role that women play in our sector.
Electricity Canada's Women in Electricity Award recognizes a leader for their dedication and contribution to advancing women in the electricity sector.
Criteria for Nominees:
- Open to all Electricity Canada members in good standing.
- Demonstrates clear leadership, commitment, and positive impact in advancing women in Canada’s electricity sector.
- Nominee(s) have demonstrated a consistent track record of championing women in their organization which has led to clear improvements regarding equity, diversity, and inclusion in their companies.
Nomination:
Nominations for Electricity Canada's Women in Electricity Award can be in the form of a self-nomination, nominations from within their own company or submitted by another Electricity Canada member.
The Nomination form will include the following information in 500 words or less:
- The specific details of the nominee’s role in their organizations and their work in advancing the role of women.
- When did this work occur? Please specify the timeframe.
- A brief description of the impact of the work (i.e., initiatives or projects, programs, policies, events etc.) and positive impact on the organization, and contributions to the advancement of women in the electricity sector.
- Maximum of 6 pages of supporting material (as an appendix), may be included in the submission. Supporting documents can include speeches, reports and/or testimonies, interviews from employees, staff or from the leadership team that demonstrates the nominees work in advancing women.
Scoring:
Criteria for assessing the nominations will include the following:
- Demonstrated Commitment, e.g. The work is fully supported by the firm's policy statement and assigning a responsibility centre.
- Value of the contribution, e.g. The reflection articulates between future goals, experiences related to training, tools and monitoring in support of advancing women in structures, processes and outcomes.
- Impact, e.g The impact of their work on the firm and the electricity sector.
